SOLD on commission for £9000

Selling on commission.

Known affectionately as the ‘Moggy’, the Morris Minor is one of the best loved cars of all-time. First released in 1948, this sought-after British classic brought a new, revolutionary design to the market.

Alec Issigonis’ ground-breaking vision for the Morris Minor was an instant hit. Taking its name from its convenient size, the Morris Minor was first produced as a 918cc two-door, which was quickly followed by the hugely popular 4-door convertible. Soon, the range expanded to include panel vans, pick-up trucks and more.

Originally known as the ‘Mosquito’ during its production phase, the Morris Minor was designed as a universal car that could bring precision and pleasure to all. True to his word, on its release, the Morris Minor was hailed as a comfortable, accessible and high-performing car.

Inspired by the Citroen Traction, Issigonis utilised independent suspension, rack and pinion steering, unitary construction, smaller wheels and a forward-placed 918cc side-valve in-line four engine, to create a car with superior handling, precise steering and a spacious, enjoyable ride.

With a top-speed of 64 mph and able to manage an impressive 40 miles per imperial gallon, Issigonis’ vision was a triumph.

The early Morris Minors are easily identifiable by their front bumpers which feature a painted mid-section, a result of the adaptions that were made to the width of the car during production, at the behest of management concerns that it was too small.

1952 saw the release of the upgraded Series II, featuring an Austin-derived engine, gears, propshaft and axle-casing. The Series II Moggy was quickly followed by the iconic Traveller estate with its ash wood framework and side-hinged doors. Two years, later a new dashboard and centrally-mounted speedometer were added.

In 1971, to much dismay, production of the Morris Minor ceased, as the Mini and Morris 1100 found their feet.
