A beautiful tri-carb Austin Healey Mk 2 that has just had a bare-metal respray.


A top pick for European rallies at the time, the Austin Healey 3000 is still a favourite for classic car racing today. Introduced in 1959 as a more powerful replacement for the Austin Healey 100-6, the 3000 began life as an open sports car.

Eventually becoming a sports convertible, the 3-litre BMC C-Series engine and disc brakes for its front wheels, guaranteed the Austin Healey 3000’s success. Heightened by the claim that it could reach 60 mph in 11 seconds and 100 mph in 31 seconds, the MK I roadster took off immediately.

The exterior of the Mark I and Mark II BN7 remained largely unchanged from the 100-6. The sought-after Mark II BT7 with its three SU HS4 carburettors, upgraded camshaft, better brake performance and a vertical barred front grille, a 2+2, this took things up a level. Reaching top speeds of 112.9 mph and accelerating from 0-60 mph in 10.9 seconds, the Austin Healey’s place in history was sealed.

The most famous of the “Big Healeys”, the Austin Healey 3000 accounted for 60% of all Big Healey sales. Raced at top circuits all over the world, it was eclipsed by the introduction of the Mini Cooper S in 1965 and production ended two years later.

The car:

This stunning 1962 Austin Healey 3000 MK2 is the sought-after BT7 tri-carb model. A beautiful car in excellent condition both inside and out, MOT and tax exempt, this is a gorgeous drive in fantastic working order.


Imported by ourselves from Canada in 2017, this much-desired Big Healey tri-carb LHD, its current high standard is the result of many hours of preparation work . Although it is now MOT and tax exempt, it has had its MOT and comes with V5 and UK age-related number plates issued by DVLA.


This gorgeous Austin Healey BT7 drives extremely well. It is extremely responsive to the throttle and handles exactly as a British sports car should. The oil pressure is good, there are no visible leaks and it pulls strongly through all gears, including overdrive.

The current mileage is 96,479.

Exterior: Having recently undergone a makeover, this BT7 received a bare metal re-spray in: Red over Old English White. A set of new silver spoked wheels has been fitted, and the hood is brand new. A tonneau cover is also supplied with the car. The chrome all round is excellent, whilst the chassis and the underside are totally solid.

Interior: Inside, the interior is very tidy with a lovely patina.
