Selling On Behalf Of A Customer. A '66 Thunderbird Landau Special

The Ford Thunderbird Landau was Ford’s indulgent, fourth generation Thunderbird. Built to exude luxury and elegance, it was produced from 1964 to 1966, and can be spotted in many films, such as Thelma and Louise.

With a 300 bhp V8 engine and softly sprung suspension, the luxe Landau appeared to float along curves and bumps. Available as a coupe and convertible, its engine size increased to 427cu and finally the optional 428cu in 1966.

The Landau was initially available with a vinyl roof, simulated landau irons and woodgrain interior detailing. It was the only car to feature the word ‘Thunderbird’ spelt out on the front hood, instead of the chrome Thunderbird emblem.

1965 saw the introduction of a new grille, front-disc brakes as standard and sequential turn signals that flashed three bulbs in its horizontal tail lights, from inside to outside, as well as other features. 1966 brought further changes with a flatter hood, re-shaped front fenders and a new egg crate grille to name a few.

Production ended in 1966.

This great 1966 Ford Thunderbird 2 door Landau Special is in good condition. A sensational drive, it is exempt from MOT and tax.

Recently brought to the U.K. by a customer, we are selling this amazing 1966 Thunderbird on their behalf.

With 390 cu in V8 and automatic transmission, it has passed its UK MOT (which is the last one that it will need) and is fitted with UK registration plates (VAM 643D).

Engine: What a car to drive! An incredible ride, the Thunderbird is very brisk for its size. Smooth, it steers and brakes well, pulling strongly through the gears and down the automatic transmission. When you combine this with its irresistible exhaust note, you have real muscle.

This is one of the best driving Thunderbirds we have ever come across.

The 1966 cars had 315bhp, when you are behind the wheel of this car, that is certainly believable. It still has the original Z-code 390 4 barrel powerplant, and the recorded mileage of 57000 is believed to be correct.

The current mileage is 57,000.

Exterior: Finished in maroon with a white roof, the body is in good condition. Straight and true,  the panels behind the rear wheels are a bit tatty. Underneath the car is totally solid, chassis, floor and sills. The car has also received a dose of Dinitrol in the cavities for additional protection.

Interior: With the opportunity to slowly improve the car over a few years, inside, the ivory interior would benefit from a high quality valet and leather treatment. At the top of the Thunderbird range, the car features revised interior and instruments.

Rowland says: “In nice overall condition for it’s year, this is one of the best driving Thunderbirds that we have ever come across. We recommend a visit to our showroom to see it for yourself.”
