A Series One E-type 2+2 in good original condition.

THE CAR

This 1966 Jaguar E-type 2+2 is a left hand drive 4.2 that has come to us from Canada. This is a matching numbers car that is finished in metallic silver with a red interior. The E-type has a new MOT and is currently awaiting its V5 and UK age-related registration number, which are imminent. Fitted with the more popular manual gearbox, this car runs and drives very well indeed, and is offered at a very competitive price. The recorded mileage is 74600.

ENGINE AND GEARBOX

The 4.2 straight-six is a variant of the XK engine that was first introduced in 1949 and was manufactured through to 1992. The 4.2 litre was the largest version, and in this E-type developed 265bhp with its triple carbs. Later US spec e-type reverted to twin carbs for improved emissions. The engine in our car starts instantly and runs well, with strong performance throughout the rev range. The gears in the 4 speed manual box select smoothly and with no issues. The engine has been well detailed under the bonnet and enhances the car.

THE INTERIOR

The red interior is original and has a nice patina. The 4 seats are leather and in good overall condition, although there is signs of wear on the drivers seat. The boot area, door cards, headlining and general trims are likewise in nice condition, with minimal wear and tear for the age. The fascia and dials in particular are very good.

THE EXTERIOR

The paintwork is metallic silver, which indicates a colour change somewhere in the last 50 years, There is no documentation relating to it, but the Heritage Certificate does state the car was originally Warwick Grey.  There is no visible evidence of the original colour so the repaint was properly done at the time. For the age, the paintwork remains good.

THE HISTORY

There is a Heritage Certificate with the car which indicates the car was originally supplied by Jaguar Cars of Canada on 20th April 1966. The certificate confirms the car has matching numbers. This E-type was selected by our colleagues in Canada and shipped to UK, where Roman Garages has prepared the car for UK registration and MOT prior to sale.

THE CONCLUSION

Here is a nice-driving S1 E-type that is very solid underneath and bodywise. The paintwork and interior is good for the year, with few sign of wear and tear and the engine and gearbox are very smooth and in good order. This car is priced very competitively, and we can recommend as one of the best Series One for this money, and which leaves scope for improvements over time.
