1968 Jaguar 420
Not to be confused with the Mark X or the 420G, the 420 superceded these models in 1966. Jaguar made the 420 a more agile, smaller car but without sacrificing the Jaguar values. The thinking behind was that Jaguar wanted a compact sporting saloon The front end treatment is similar to the Mark X, and the rear end is similar to the less-loved S-type.
Finished in a light blue metallic with dark blue leather interior this car is in excellent condition for its age. We think you will find it hard to come across one as good as this one for the same money. The 420, as the name suggests, has the famous XK straight six Jaguar engine in 4.2 with twin carbs giving out 245bhp, which gives it very respectable performance. Our car has had the electric choke conversion which makes starting instantaneous from cold. The handling, braking and driving experience is excellent, and is exactly as a Jaguar of it era should be like. The Jaguar is equipped with twin fuel tanks, and all the chrome is in very good condition.
The blue leather interior is in very good condition indeed and the walnut dash has that very attractive patina. This is close to a show car, and is a highly driveable classic car which will not be put to shame whatever the meeting or show it attends.
The current recorded mileage is 74031 and although we can’t warrant that this is genuine, the general condition and driveability of the car would indicate it is correct. The MOT expiry is March 2018, and the 420 is road tax exempt. Prices are rising for this era of Jaguar, and we recommend an early viewing. The car is located in our premises in Grantham, so give us a call to arrange to see it. Telephone is 01476 563001.
