A Fine Example Of The Sought After Ford Cortina Lotus Mk2

This is a very nice example of a 1969 Ford Lotus Cortina Mk2, for sale at Roman Garages. It is my own car, and will be sold with an invoice or receipt as a private sale. This car is located in Kings Lynn.

The Cortina Lotus is a sought after variant of the very popular Mk2 Cortina, and although these sporting  Fords haven’t risen to the same value as the Mk1 cars, they are still appreciating. The engine is the familiar 1558cc Twin Cam with twin Weber or Dellorto carbs, and powered a number of fast Fords around that era, as well as the Lotus Elan and Europa. This car has Dellorto carbs which were a fairly rare factory option, and fitted by the Ford Competition Department from new.

Unlike the Mk1 cars, the Mk2 was available in other colours, but our car is in Ermine White with Sherwood Green flash, the most evocative colour combination and easily identifiable. The car has remained largely original over the last 50 years, but does has a Webasto sun roof and Kenlowe cooling fan – both worthwhile period upgrades. The black interior is original and the car is fitted with inertia reel seat belts.

Overall the car is in very good condition for its age, not a highly restored or concours museum piece, but a very drivable, very presentable slice of motoring history. It has had paintwork in the past, which is to be expected but is tidy and straight. The metalwork locating the struts is rust free. The underside is also in very good condition. It comes with a lot of maintenance invoices for parts and work carried out over the years, the majority of them Burton Power.

The Lotus is MOT and tax exempt, but included in the history file is old MOTs and the original owners manual, It is HPI clear. This Cortina has four very good tyres, and is sold with a spare wheel and original toolkit. Another identifying features of these cars is the reverse rim wheels and chrome centre caps.

We have driven this car 100 miles, and it has no issues. Its keeps cool, and runs an excellent oil pressure both from cold and when at running temperature. It handles well and the gearbox and engine are smooth and willing. The mileometer reads 4k which we believe to be 104k and this has been confirmed by previous owners. It starts, stops and drives exactly as a car of this age should.
