A masterpiece of British design as renowned for its speed and performance as its appearance, this is an iconic British sports car. First brought to the market in 1961, the legendary E-Type spent fourteen years at the top and continues to top the ‘Best of’ car lists, in publications across the world.

Its place in motoring history was won with the E-Type Series 1. Shaking up the automobile industry with its top speed of 150 mph, 0 to 60 mph acceleration in less than seven seconds, independent front and rear suspension, rack-and-pinion steering and much more, its sales moved quickly.

Incredibly, its lightweight chassis, based on Jaguar’s 24 Hours of Le Mans’ thrice-winning D-Type, only weighed 1315 kg, a great feat of engineering for the era. Enzo Ferrari said it was ‘the  most beautiful car ever made’. A feeling still echoed by many around the world, as E-Types continue to make appearances in movies and glossy TV dramas, such as Sky’s Mad Men, today.

First presented as a grand tourer rear-wheel drive two-seater coupe and a two-seater convertible roadster, the 2 + 2 four seater version of the coupe came a few years later, featuring a longer wheelbase.

Rather than with each new series, improvements and changes were made to the E-Type continuously. 1968 heralded the Series 2, with a distinctly different appearance, which included an enlarged mouth, re-positioned front and tail lights, as well as a wrap-around rear bumper. This car on offer is a Series 2 with the 4.2 engine and automatic gearbox.

The Series 3 released in 1971, boasted a new 5.3 L twelve cylinder Jaguar V12 engine, upgraded brakes and power-steering as standard. Equipped with Zenith carburettors, its engine was said to produce 272 hp and could do 0-60 mph in less than 7 seconds. The last Series 3 was produced in 1975.
