An Increasingly Rare Austin 1300GT In Nice Condition For Year

About:

Britain’s best-selling family car throughout the sixties, the BMC AD016 holds a special place in British hearts. Entering the market in 1962, the BMC AD016 was produced until 1974. Selling over two million cars in its lifespan, it accounted for more than half the cars sold in the U.K.

During its twelve successful years in production, it saw a number of models with different names including the Austin 1100, Morris 1100 and the final Austin 1300. Originally introduced to the masses as the Morris, it was rebadged a number of times, but the Austin and Vanden Plas were the last remaining models by 1974.

The Hydrolastic suspension set the original Mark I, the four-door 1100, apart from its contemporaries as a spacious and smooth ride. Four-speed transmission was added in 1965, and a more powerful 1275cc engine in 1967, with the release of the Mark II.

With some details added to a wider front grille in 1967, the Morris and Austin could be distinguished by the Austin’s wavy bars and the Morris’ straight ones.

In 1969, the 1300GT was produced with the same 1275cc twin carburettor engine as the MG 1300, as well as a black grille and vinyl roof. 1971 saw the release of the last model, the Mark III, which was produced until 1974.

The car:

Increasingly rare, this Austin 1300GT shares the same 1275 twin carb unit as the Mk3 Mini Cooper S 1275, developing 70 bhp. Great fun to drive, it is in good condition and is MOT and Tax exempt.

History:

Recently imported from Ireland, this Austin 1300GT is UK registered with V5 and UK plates.

We are offering it as a trade sale which means there is no warranty given or implied by us. Any buyer should study the photographs detailed below, or visit our Grantham showroom to see the car for yourself.

Having only driven short runs in the car, we recommend it is trailered away. This is not because there is a major issue that has not been divulged, but because it has not been road tested over a long distance. We can also deliver if required.

Although the car has had work in the past, it is in good all round condition.

It is unclear when it was last serviced, so we would recommend that a service is carried out in the near future.

Having only driven short runs in the car, we recommend it is trailered away. This is not because there is a major issue that has not been divulged, but because it has not been road tested over a long distance. We can also deliver if required.

The current recorded mileage is 46500

Exterior: This sporting GT has alloy wheels, which we do not think suits the car, however we have the four original wheel trims as an alternative, if required. The bodywork is painted in Black Tulip.

Although the car has had work in the past, it is in good all round condition. The underside has been rustproofed and is very solid. However it is over 40 years old so it is not completely perfect.

Interior: The black interior is clean and tidy, although there are a couple of small cuts in the front seats which have been taped over.

Rowland says: “This Austin 1300GT is an excellent starter classic that is very easy to work on with good parts availability. It is unclear when it was last serviced, so we would recommend that a service is carried out in the near future.
